Scotland Under-16s won the UEFA Development Tournament this afternoon after coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Austria at Oriam to seal top spot in the group and ensure they finished off unbeaten after three games.

Goals from Hearts’ Chris Hamilton and a late 20-yard leveller from Hibernian’s Kane O’Connor meant the match would go to penalty kicks were a bonus point was up for grabs – and Scotland finished strongly, winning 5-3 in the shootout.

The result, and bonus point, meant Brian McLaughlin’s side finished the group in first place with eight points following a 1-0 win over Croatia on Monday and a 2-1 defeat of Iceland on Wednesday.

Austria finished in second place on six points with Iceland earning three points and Croatia in fourth on one point.

The UEFA Development Tournaments serve to provide under-16 national teams with experience as they prepare to compete in the 2018 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifiers which begin later in the year.
