Stewart Regan appointed to UEFA Club Competitions Board

Tuesday, 06 June 2017

Scottish FA Chief Executive Stewart Regan has been appointed to the Board of Administration of UEFA Club Competitions SA (UCC).

A new subsidiary company of UEFA, UCC’s role is to advise and make recommendations to UEFA Club Competitions’ Committee on strategic business matters and opportunities for its consideration before being referred up to the UEFA Executive Committee for approval.

The announcement was made to the members of the Scottish FA at its Annual General Meeting this morning.

In addition to the announcement of Stewart Regan’s appointment, the AGM also saw Alan McRae re-elected President of the Scottish FA for a second two year term, with Rod Petrie re-elected Vice-President for a similar term.

McRae has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in football administration. After playing an integral role in the rise of Cove Rangers from amateur status to Highland League, he has subsequently been involved in football from the grassroots level all the way up to UEFA, FIFA and International Football Association Board.

The Scottish FA also posted a total group turnover of £35.8 million for 2016, an increase from the previous year of £32.7 million and the second highest figure ever posted.

As a result of the increase in turnover the Scottish FA was able to distribute an enhanced level of payments to its members across the various strands of its overall strategy, including Club Academy Scotland, other Measurable Performance Outcomes, National Club Licensing and Good Governance.

The total paid to member clubs and associations in 2016 amounted to £10.5 million, an increase of £1.4 million from 2015.

All resolutions and proposals submitted at today’s AGM were approved by the members, including:

- Making permanent the temporary amendment of Challenge Cup Competition Rule 8 in relation to clubs exempt from Preliminary Ties to include the Scottish Highland Football League and the Scottish Football Lowland League.

- Clubs will be responsible for the behaviour of their players, officials, Team Staff, Team Officials, members, supporters and any person carrying out a function at a match on its behalf before, during and after such a match.

Stewart Regan, Scottish FA Chief Executive: “I am pleased to have been given the chance to represent UEFA on this new board, which will deal with the business affairs of UEFA’s competitions, including the Champions League and the Europa League.

The UCC does not deal with sporting matters, but looks at a wide range of business matters within UEFA, so my appointment to the Board of Administration will allow Scottish Football to have a strong voice on vitally important business issues.

“I am also delighted to see the re-elections of Alan and Rod as President and Vice-President today and we look forward to continuing to build on the strong platform we have developed in recent years under their tenure.
