Kit bundles handed out to walking football groups

Tuesday, 20 December 2016

The Scottish FA and SPFL Trust have joined forces to create a ‘walking football kit bundle’ scheme.

After successfully obtaining £10,000 in funding from Awards for All, the SPFL Trust, with the help of the Scottish FA, recently handed out kit bundles to many of the walking football groups that now exist throughout the country to help them flourish.

There are currently 12 SPFL clubs, six other football clubs, 10 councils and 10 miscellaneous groups that run a total of 63 weekly walking football sessions across Scotland.

These sessions allow more than 700 people nationwide to become active who would otherwise not have the opportunity to do so.

Walking football has the potential to improve people’s lives, especially for those aged over 50. It offers a multitude of benefits, including increased physical activity, improved mental health and wellbeing, access to additional sources of support, and the opportunity to form new friendships for those living in isolation.

The sport is a variant of association football that is aimed at keeping people aged 50 and over involved with football if they are unable to play the traditional game.

It can be played both indoors and outdoors, and offers a fun and welcoming environment for participants to enjoy the nation’s number one sport.
