The conditions that created players such as Kenny Dalglish andDenis Law are brought back to life in the form of Fun Fours football.
FunFours programmes for five to eight year-olds are run by the Scottish FA, in partnership with local authorities, in sports centres around the country.
Children very rarely play street football these days, butwith small-sided games vital skills picked up on the streets can now bedeveloped within a new environment. In this format, children havemore touches of the ball, greater chances for 1 v 1s, opportunities tomake important on-field decisions – and it's great fun.
Fun Fours isn’t just for children – Sir Alex Ferguson uses the same format in training at Manchester United.
Coachingtips for attacking include: changing pace, direction, disguise, raisingawareness of players around you and how to go for goal.
Defending tips include: trying to win the ball back quickly, finding space to help the defending player and how to deny space.

Scottish FA coaches provide fun classes which aim to help children to develop a positive, motivated and confident mind-set. Classes include the ‘Donkey’s Tail’ where children chase their classmate around, acting as a warm-up. Music in sessions acts a motivator for children and creates a good atmosphere
Main activities include dribbling, individual skills, passing and shooting. We also like to use a balloon to develop interaction – rolling, catching and bouncing are just some of the methods used.
