Scotland didn’t attempt to qualify for the first three World Cup Finals as they weren’t yet members of FIFA. Despite qualifying for the 1950 World Cup, the Scottish FA declined to send a team since we weren’t British Champions at the time. So, it wasn’t until 1954 that Scotland eventually took part in the Finals.
Scotland have qualified for the European Championship finals twice – in 1992 and 1996.
Scotland v England on the 30th November 1872 was the first time the sides met and was also the first ever official International football match. Fittingly, the match fell on St Andrew’s Day and the venue was the West of Scotland cricket club’s ground at Hamilton Crescent in Partick.
