The Scottish FA today mourns the loss of Denis Law – a true Scottish football icon.
It’s hard to find the words that do justice to a man known as both 'The King' and 'The Lawman', who remains the only Scot to have been crowned Ballon d’Or winner (in 1964).
The Aberdeen-born striker was capped 55 times for his country and notched 30 goals, which marks him out as joint-top scorer for the Scotland Men's A team.
Law also represented Scotland at the 1974 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
A hero for Huddersfield Town, Manchester City and Torino, he is synonymous with Manchester United, after captivating supporters at Old Trafford over an 11-year spell, where he scored 237 goals in 404 appearances.
Those statistics speak for themselves, but Law was cherished just as much for his flair and obvious passion for the game.
A one-off.
His impact was felt far beyond the field of play, not least with his charity work through the Denis Law Legacy Trust.
Scottish FA President Mike Mulraney said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Denis Law.
"His impact on Scottish football, and the country in general, cannot be overstated. He inspired the generation who were fortunate to see him play, and countless others who have pored over footage of his genius.
"We have a proud history of producing born entertainers, who combined technique and tenacity. No-one more so than Denis Law."
Scottish FA Chief Executive Ian Maxwell added: "On behalf of the Scottish FA, I'd like to pay tribute to a fine footballer and a fine man.
"Denis talked with such pride about pulling on the Scotland shirt and it's fair to say the feeling was mutual. That will be evidenced by the tributes in the coming days.
"The word 'legend' is overused within the game, but there's no mistaking Denis Law's legendary status. He will never be forgotten."
The Scottish FA will pay tribute to Denis Law at the next Scotland Men's A home game, against Greece at Hampden Park on Sunday, March 23 in the UEFA Nations League.
