Scotland Women’s Under-17s have narrowly missed out on qualification for this summer’s European Championships following a final day defeat to France.

The Round 2 group stage games saw Scotland take on Slovakia, Wales and France in a bid to reach the finals later this year.

Group A2 faced off in Bourges and Michael Tuohy’s side opened the games with a draw against Slovakia. The victory looked to be secured until last gasp equaliser in the 90th minute for Slovakia. Scotland held the lead courtesy of goals from Amy Sharkey and Orla Burn but ultimately couldn’t hold on for the three points.

Wales were next up for Scotland and Amy Sharkey was back on the scoresheet. Scotland took the lead on 56 minutes but had to wait until deep into extra time to double the advantage, substitute Cara Gray the difference on 95 minutes.

It was all to play for in the final game against France who took an early lead. Scotland pulled level after an own goal on 77 minutes, but Camille Marmillot scored the winner in the 89th minute sending Scotland home without a place at this summer’s tournament.

Next up to bid for a spot at the European Championship finals this summer is Scotland Women’s Under-19s. They face Czechia, Spain and Switzerland in Group A5 – the round 2 mini tournament will be hosted in Scotland at the start of April.
