Forfar Farmington today furthered their reputation as one of the country's most progressive independent clubs by launching a third senior women’s side.
Initially conceived six months ago as a wasy of increasing participation within the senior level of the women’s game, the club has spent the last couple of months planning the development and focus of the newest addition to the Farmington family.
After advertising for a management team and coaching staff, the club was delighted to be able to appoint internally.
With over 25 years' experience in the women’s game, and having led Farmington’s first foray into the women’s senior game, the management team of Colin Brown (Manager) and Charlie Lewis (Assistant Manager) will work in close partnership with Head Coach Paul White.
Paul successfully led the club’s U13 girls side to a Scottish Cup semi-final appearance this season, and will combine that role with his new senior coaching function.
Colin Brown said: “We have a fantastically vibrant youth pathway here at Forfar Farmington, however we found that players were exiting youth football at U17 level and were unable to make an immediate step up to the club’s SWPL side.”
“Invariably these players would become discouraged to the point of quitting the game and that’s not something we want to see happening.”
“By launching a new divisional side which will train and be run to a very high standard, we can ensure that young players can continue to develop in an environment that is both challenging and competitive, and also provides a direct conduit into SWPL football.”
Subject to league approval, the club's new side will start in next season’s local SWFL Division 2 competition, using the name “Forfar Farmington Ladies”. The club’s SWPL side will carry the name “Forfar Farmington FC” and the club’s current SWFL Division 2 side is “Forfar Farmington Lassies”.
Forfar Farmington FC is a Scottish FA Quality Mark Community Club, operating from purpose built clubrooms at the floodlit Market Muir in Forfar. The club runs seven girls sides from U11 to U17, one boys U12 side and three senior women’s sides.
