Scotland: John McGinn (7, 53), Adams (59), Ryan Fraser (69)

Scotland ended their opening World Cup qualifying triple header with a comfortable victory over the Faroe Islands at Hampden Park. In their last game before the Euros, John McGinn put in a Man of the Match performance scoring a double to become Scotland's top scorer in the last 10 years. Che Adams and Ryan Fraser were also on the scoresheet to secure the three points.

Team news

Steve Clarke started Craig Gordon in between the sticks with McTominay returning to defence. Ryan Fraser operated on the right flank with Dykes and Adams pairing up front.

As it happened

Scotland looked comfortable early on and took a deserved lead after seven minutes when Callum McGregor threaded a clever ball through to Kieran Tierney who did well to sight John McGinn. He was lurking inside the box and was able to tuck the ball home, scoring his ninth goal for Scotland.

Moments later Scott McTominay sprayed an impressive pass to Robertson who squared it with his first touch but McGinn was unable to position himself to slot the ball home.

At the other end, Craig Gordon prevented a certain goal when Hendriksson let fly from distance and the Hearts goalkeeper was able to get a strong hand on the ball and push it over the crossbar.

After 24 minutes, Andy Robertson clipped the ball into the front post where Che Adams directed the ball goalwards but the ‘keeper was able to make the save on the goal line.

In the second half, Scotland doubled their lead and John McGinn was back on the scoresheet with a header. Kieran Tierney was again the provider and McGinn was able to nod the ball into the back of the net.

Che Adams impressed in Israel and on his first start at Hampden he scored his first goal for Scotland. Lining up the strike at the edge of the box after 59 minutes, he lashed the ball into the corner of the net and gave his side a 3-0 lead.

The night was a special occasion for Kevin Nisbet who made his Scotland debut with 67 minutes on the clock, replacing Lyndon Dykes.

Moments after he came on Scotland hit the net once more and this time it was Ryan Fraser with a header, after he nodded home a pinpoint Andy Robertson cross.

Scotland will resume their World Cup Qualifying campaign in September with a triple header against Denmark, Moldova and Austria.

Before that though, Scotland will be back in action on Monday, 14 June where history will be made as they step out against Czech Republic in their EURO 2020 opener.
