Wales v Scotland
Pinatar Cup
Wednesday, 16 February 2022, kick-off 2.30pm (UK time)
Pinatar Arena, San Pedro del Pinatar
Scotland kick off their Pinatar Cup campaign on Wednesday against near-neighbours Wales.
With the squad assembling on Monday in Spain after a busy weekend of club football, Pedro Martinez Losa will have the chance to put them through their paces on Tuesday before gearing up for the tournament opener.
The Scots are, of course, using the 10-day training camp to prepare for April’s World Cup qualification double-header against Ukraine and Spain.
They’ll be in familiar surroundings at the Pinatar Arena, having triumphed in the inaugural version of the competition in the same stadium back in 2020.
Team news
Pedro has had to shuffle the pack slightly on the back of the weekend’s domestic scene.
Celtic goalkeeper Chloe Logan – who celebrated her first senior call-up – has been forced to withdraw through injury, alongside Chelsea midfielder Erin Cuthbert.
The group will be boosted by the addition of Logan’s Hoops’ team-mate, keeper Rachael Johnstone, and defender Leah Eddie from Hibernian.

The rest of the squad will be assessed on arrival ahead of Tuesday’s first training session.
Pre-match thoughts
Pedro and his staff have a balancing act on their hands between individually assessing players who are fresh from a busy fixture card at the weekend, experimenting with new line-ups and tactics ahead of some big games on the horizon and wanting to make an impact in Spain.
Looking ahead to the Pinatar Cup and the camp itself, he said: “We want to continue developing our playing philosophy and player development plans. To build this team’s identity.
“This time together with the players will be great. I want it to feel like a family.
“We still have to go through those experiences together – the good moments and the bad ones – because that’s what brings you together, but in the three camps so far we’ve tried to give them clear direction of the way we want to progress things.
“Ukraine is a very important game for us, and we want to be in the best condition we can be for that, but it will also be nice to give people opportunities and maybe try different things tactically.
“Wales are a team who are improving all the time and it will be a great first test for us.”
Pedro was sorry to lose Chloe and Erin from the travelling group, but happy to have the chance to add Leah and Rachael.
He said: “I spoke to Chloe after we named the squad. It was her first call-up and I think it was one of the best days of her life. I could tell how happy and excited she was.
“I gave her a call after the injury to make sure she knows that these things happen. It’s part of football and she’ll have other opportunities with us. I have no doubt about that.
“Erin is a key player for us and she’s developing all the time. It’s a shame not to have her with us and we want her back as soon as possible.
“Leah is a player we’ve already worked with. I believe in her and she has real talent. We want to keep her in this environment to continue her learning.
“Rachael is another young player who has all the attributes to play at the highest level. It’ll be a great experience for her.”
