Steve Clarke made one change to the starting XI that lined up against Croatia on Saturday evening with Ché Adams coming into the team in place of Lyndon Dykes.

Nicky Devlin made his Scotland debut when he came on as a second-half substitute.

As It Happened

The belting of Flower of Scotland spurred Scotland on to a positive opening period, creating a number of chances within the first ten minutes. Good build up play from Scotland lead to Scott McTominay breaking into the box however António Silva reacted quickly to block the Scottish effort.

Minutes later and Scott McTominay was back in the box to put pressure on Portugal. Andy Robertson crossed the ball into the box and McTominay popped up at close range however his effort was saved low by Diogo Costa.

It was Cristiano Ronaldo who created the first chance of the game for the visitors when the Portuguese captain received the ball on the edge of the box before slotting a low effort towards goal however Craig Gordon gathered with ease.

A determined first half performance from Scotland saw them head into half time on level terms with their visitors.

Substitute Lewis Morgan didn’t take long after coming off the bench to play his part in a Scotland attack. His cross into the box was headed down by Ché Adams however the Portugal defence beat Scott McTominay to the ball to clear it from the danger area.

Anthony Ralston had Hampden Park on the edge of their seats minutes later when he drove down the right hand wing before crossing the ball into the box, narrowly passing Scott McTominay to go behind him.

In the final few minutes of the game, Portugal came close to stealing a late goal. Rafael Leão produced some great footwork inside the box before cutting the ball back to Bruno Fernandes who dispatched an effort towards goal which was saved low by Craig Gordon. Gordon then pounced back into action to gather the ball before Cristiano Ronaldo was able to reach it, ensuring Scotland gained their well earned point
