Scotland v Northern Ireland
Tuesday, 26 March 2024 (kick-off 7.45pm)
Hampden Park, Glasgow

Scotland will officially begin their build-up to UEFA EURO 2024 when they take on the Netherlands and Northern Ireland in March friendlies next year.

Steve Clarke’s side will first travel to the Netherlands to take on the 1988 European Champions in a 7.45pm (UK) kick-off on Friday, 22 March, with the venue to be confirmed by the hosts in the near future.

Hampden Park will then host its first men’s international of the year when Northern Ireland visit on Tuesday, 26 March, kick-off 7.45pm

The fixtures will serve as the first step in the squad’s preparation for the EURO 2024 finals in June, where they will take on hosts Germany in the opening game of the tournament, as well as Hungary and Switzerland in Group A.

Scotland have played the Netherlands 20 times since their first meeting nearly a century ago in 1929, winning six and losing nine.

The nations most recently met in another EURO warm-up match, facing off against each other in June 2021 prior to EURO 2020. That match, in which Billy Gilmour made his senior debut, finished a 2-2 draw, both Jack Hendry and Kevin Nisbet scoring their first goals for Scotland before a last-minute Memphis Depay free-kick denied Steve Clarke’s side a victory.

Scotland enjoy a positive record in match-ups against Northern Ireland over the years, with 17 victories and nine defeats among the 36 occasions they have faced off.

The sides last met in 2015 in a friendly at Hampden Park, Scotland winning 1-0 thanks to a late Christophe Berra goal. Indeed, Scotland have only lost on two occasions in their last 16 fixtures against the visitors, in a run going back to 1975.

Ticket information for the matches, along with confirmation of the venue for the Netherlands match, will be released in due course.
