Scotland legend Rhonda Jones joined host Gordon Duncan at Hampden Park for the Women's Scottish Cup First Round draw.

She did the honours to tee up eight exciting ties in the new-look competition, which has been launched as the latest step in the Scottish FA's bespoke women's football strategy, Accelerate Our Game.

Both the semi-finals and final will be played at Hampden in 2023 and Jones - with 117 caps to her name - is excited by the direction the women's game is heading in.

She said: "It really does feel like progress is being made, between the new league setup and the Women's Scottish Cup. It's also nice to see people I played with, like Caroline Weir and Erin Cuthbert, going on to fulfil their potential and play for some of the biggest clubs in the biggest games.

"There's obviously more work still to be done, and I think everyone's aware of that, but things are definitely moving in the right direction."

Jones won the previous incarnation of the competition in 2010, captaining Hibernian to success over Rangers, so knows what it means to those looking to follow in her footsteps.

She added: "It was a special day and an added honour to be captain.

"For personal reasons, there was added significance, because my niece, Aaliyah, was mascot on the day.

"Our final was at Recreation Park, which was great, but there is something about playing at the National Stadium that will add to the occasion for the players taking part.

"You want that day at the home of football in Scotland. It's something they'll remember for the rest of their days."

A Helping Hand

A Crew Commander in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service by day, Jones is also the founder and manager of You Are My Sunshine (YAMS) - a charity that offers free mental health support.

She joined long-time friend and Scotland star Nicola Docherty to talk about the work being done by Nicola and her partner's family at a special mental health drop-in night at Patricia's Coffee Bar in Govanhill - which works alongside YAMS to help people in their local community.
