Scotland U21 v Hungary U21
UEFA Under-21 EURO 2025 Qualifier
Friday, 13 October, kick-off 7pm
Fir Park, Motherwell
Scot Gemmill's Under-21 side are back in Scotland as they prepare for a crucial EURO 2025 qualifier against Hungary at Fir Park.
The match is the first of a home double header which sees the young Scots also face Malta at the same venue on Tuesday evening.
Scotland were narrowly beaten by Spain in their first qualifier in Jaen last month and will be hoping to bounce back against Hungary.
Team News
Scotland have been hit by a number of injuries in the build up to this double header, with Tommy Conway, Lewis Fiorini and Calvin Ramsay among the absentees through injury.
And Gemmill's side were hit with further blows in losing Josh Doig and Lyall Cameron from the squad that was initially named.
Those absences give opportunities to other players though, and Aidan Denholm, Kerr Smith and Finlay Robertson have all been drafted in for their first Under-21 call-ups.
Ben Doak is in the squad again after his stand-out performance against Spain last time out.

Previous Meetings
Friday's match sees Scotland Under-21s face Hungary for the first time since March 2015.
Of the Scotland squad who travelled that Tatabanya that day, an impressive eight have since gone on to represent the senior national team. John McGinn started in midfield as part of strong Scotland line up, but he was unable to prevent his side falling behind as Szenes Bence put the hosts ahead.
Scotland shuffled the pack at the break, with Dom Hyam and Lawrence Shankland introduced – with the latter winning his first cap at Under-21 level.
Current Scotland internationals Ryan Christie and Stephen Kingsley also came on as Scotland pushed for a leveler.
With less than ten minutes remaining, it looked as if Scotland were heading for defeat, only for debutant Shankland to announce himself with a late double to steal a 2-1 victory.
Pre-match Thoughts
Despite being one of the younger ones in the squad, Jeremiah Mullen has been a regular fixture in the Under-21 side since making his debut in March against Sweden - starting all five matches since.
This will be the first time he's featured in Scotland though, and the Leeds United defender is relishing the prospect.
He said: "You can’t underestimate these opponents but on home soil we definitely see this match as a big opportunity to pick up points and I think we’re capable of doing it if we perform like we know we can.
"I’m actually really looking forward to playing in Scotland again and hopefully we can get a few supporters along. It would be great to win on home soil.
"It was a tough test against Spain in the last match. You always want to play against the best opposition you can. We expected it to be a tough game but we defended well and on another day we could’ve possibly got a win or definitely something out of the game.
"I think I was ready for it but it was definitely a step up to play against opposition like that. Every player in each position was at a very good level so you have to be switched on and fully focused for the whole game or you will get punished."
