Excitement’s building for this weekend’s Scottish Cup Fifth Round card as we approach the business end of the tournament.
High-flying Hearts host Livingston at Tynecastle on Saturday, with their home turf something of a fortress when it comes to this fixture and the competition in general.
The Jambos are unbeaten in their last 15 games against Livi in Gorgie, with their last defeat coming way back in May 2002. They’re also unbeaten in their last 11 Scottish Cup ties at Tynecastle.
David Martindale’s men will hope to rip up the form guide and booked a quarter-final slot for the first time since the 2004/05 season.
Aberdeen travel to Motherwell on the back of mixed fortunes of late in the SPFL Premiership, but The Dons have won on each of the last four occasions they’ve been on Scottish Cup duty at Fir Park.
Motherwell are hopeful of reaching their third quarter-final in the last four seasons.
Partick Thistle’s manager, Ian McCall, will be looking to get one over on former club Dundee United as Tam Courts’ men come calling to Firhill.
The two met in the competition last season, with United edging Thistle out 2-1 at Tannadice.
If Thistle need any added motivation, they haven’t scalped a club from a higher division in the Scottish Cup since season 2005/06, when they got the better of Inverness Caledonian Thistle on penalties.
St Mirren will be in no mood to take Kelty Hearts lightly after the League Two leaders sent holders St Johnstone spinning out of the Scottish Cup last time out.
The two sides have never before met in a competitive clash, and this is the first time Kelty Hearts have made it as far as the Fifth Round stage.
With their rapid progress and assortment of well-known senior pros, The Maroon Machine have in the past drawn comparisons with Gretna – who were the last team from outside the top two tiers to see off St Mirren in a Scottish Cup tie, back in 2006.
Annan entertain Rangers in Saturday’s evening kick-off and are hoping to carve out their own little bit of Scottish Cup history, having never reached the Scottish Cup quarter-final stage.
Rangers will go in, understandably, as clear favourites and can point to a 100 per cent record in Scottish Cup ties against fourth-tier opponents, with 10 wins out of 10.
The @ScottishFA Board have approved the temporary amendment of Cup Competition Rules relating to the number of substitutes permitted to be made by clubs in Scottish Cup matches for the remainder of the 2021-22 competition. https://t.co/sPvQ1bUXW4

Championship pacesetters Arbroath have been one of the stories of the season, belying their part-time status to lead the way in the second tier and attract no shortage of plaudits along the way.
Hibernian won’t relish their trip to Gayfield Park on Sunday for the 12.30pm kick-off but history is on their side.
The Hibees haven’t lost a Scottish Cup tie outside of Edinburgh or Glasgow since January 2011, when they slipped to a 1-0 loss at Ayr United.
Raith Rovers will head through to Celtic Park on Sunday, hoping to reverse a trend of nine straight losses to The Hoops in the Scottish Cup.
The two teams have already met this season in the League Cup quarter-final, with Celtic 3-0 winners.
The Fifth Round will come to a close with Peterhead hosting Dundee on Monday night.
Peterhead have never been able to topple top-flight opposition in the Scottish Cup, while Dundee need no reminding that they haven’t enjoyed success in the competition since season 1909/10.
