FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Qualifiers
Scotland v Ukraine
Friday, 26 November 2021, kick-off 7.35pm
Hampden Park, Glasgow

Scotland aim to keep their 100% record in their bid to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup intact this Friday, as they welcome Ukraine to Hampden Park.

Buoyed by captain Rachel Corsie’s last-minute winner against Hungary last month in their last match at Hampden, Pedro Martinez Losa’s side will aim to make it four from four in this campaign against the group's third seeds.

Team News

Head Coach Pedro Martinez Losa is able to call on the services of Birmingham City captain Christie Murray for the first time in his tenure following her return from injury.

Murray’s return will provide a boost for a squad that has this week lost Martha Thomas, Kirsty Hanson and Kirsty Smith to injury. Lana Clelland, Abi Harrison, Lizzie Arnot And Amy Muir have been added to the squad in their place.

AC Milan winger Christy Grimshaw will be aiming to keep up the fine goalscoring form at Hampden Park that has seen her net in both of her matches at the national stadium.

Previous meetings

The sides last met in March 2020, Scotland running out 3-0 victors in Spain in the Pinatar Cup thanks to a double from Martha Thomas and a goal from Claire Emslie.

The nations faced off on five occasions in the 2000s, Ukraine holding the advantage in that decade with three wins and one draw, albeit Scotland’s victory being a resounding 5-1 win in May 2003.

The last time the sides met in Scotland Ukraine upset their hosts with a 1-0 victory at McDiarmid Park in a UEFA Women’s EURO 2009 qualifier.

Pre-match thoughts

Scotland winger Lisa Evans: "We're well aware that it's going to be a step-up again. We all need to be at it and be at our best, to compete with the likes of Ukraine and Spain.

"Ukraine are going to be really tricky to be honest. They're a really experienced team. They make the play-offs continuously. I think it's going to be quite scrappy and be really physical.

"They've got a new manager so it'll be interesting to see if they change anything tactically. It's a game we feel we're more than capable of winning."
